While you are cleaning you components you should have your replacement clutches soaking in friction modifier part number 43161 from Spicer is preferred. This additive is specially formulated to prevent the clutches from chattering. Your clutches should soak a minimum of 20 minutes but it is recommended soaking a couple of hours for best results. Save the fluid as you will need to add it to your gear oil later. It is HIGHLY recommended that you rubber wear gloves when handling the friction modifier and the components during assembly as this friction modifier can cause skin irritation and it smells horrible and your hands will smell from it for days if you don’t.

Using the diagram below position the new clutches on the side gears as shown. You can uses some lithium grease to hold the clutch retainer clips in place during assembly. Place he side gears with the clutch pack attached back into the carrier and reinstall the small spider gear leaving the thrust washers out at this time. it may be necessary to use the axle shaft in the vise and cross pin to help rotate the spider gears back into place. After making sure that the cross pin can slip easily into place assuring the spider gears are properly aligned the fun part begins.
