A common question we get about Nissan Titans is about whether the customer has an open differential or locking (or E-Locker) differential. The easiest way to tell is the button for the locking differential is just ahead of the shifter, below the AC controls, down by the cigarette lighter. The E-locker had issues early on (2004 was the first year of the Titans) since it was only a 2-pinion locker. Dana Spicer upgraded the locker to be a 4-pinion locker which increased the strength and durability of the differential. Dana only offers it this way now and we stock it as part number 2016950.
The E-Locker is not designed to be shifted on the fly (while the vehicle is in motion) and should be engaged while the vehicle is at a stop or a slow crawl (3-5 mph). Shifting on the fly or leaving the locker engaged for long periods of time at high speeds is very hard on the unit and can cause failure. Lockers should be used to get out of a jam or slow crawl over difficult terrain.
Drivetrain America has this unit and many other parts for your Titan and we would be glad to answer any questions you may have.
